How we order this list

How the order is set

XM is featured. It appears first, with a “Featured” label, because we chose to feature it: a $5 minimum, negative balance protection on every account and one named, licensed company make it an easy first account. Its overall rating is set by our editors and labelled “Editorial rating”.

Everyone else is ordered by the Broker Atlas score, out of 5. The score is calculated automatically from the published conditions in our data, with the same rules for every broker (apart from the featured broker, whose overall rating is set by our editors and labelled “Editorial rating”):

Part Weight What it measures
Costs 30% EUR/USD spread, raw-account commission, gold spread
Trading conditions 25% Maximum leverage, minimum deposit, stop-out level, whether scalping and EAs are allowed
Safety 25% Licence of the company that serves you, group licences, regulator warnings, negative balance protection
Bonuses 10% Whether there’s a deposit or no-deposit bonus
Platforms and tools 10% Platforms, copy trading, swap-free accounts, local-language support

A part with no data counts as 2 out of 5, so not publishing a figure never helps a broker. When a broker’s conditions change, its score and place change with them. The exact thresholds for each part are in how the Broker Atlas score works.

The score compares published conditions. It doesn’t measure execution quality or how a broker handles withdrawals in practice, so a small test withdrawal is still worth making.

Frequently asked questions

How is the ranking order set?

XM is shown first as our featured broker, an editorial choice. Every other broker is ordered by its Broker Atlas score out of 5, calculated automatically from the published conditions in our data: costs 30%, trading conditions 25%, safety 25%, bonuses 10%, platforms and tools 10%. The full rules are on our methodology page.

Do affiliate payments affect the order?

The featured broker at the top is an editorial choice, and we may earn a commission when you open an account through our links. Every other position follows the score, and commissions never change a calculated score: it's calculated from published conditions only, with the same rules for every broker (apart from the featured broker, whose overall rating is set by our editors and labelled “Editorial rating”).

Does being featured raise XM's score?

No. XM's score is calculated like everyone else's, at 3.6 out of 5. Featuring it changes only where it appears, not the number shown next to it.

Is XM regulated?

XM Global Limited is licensed by the FSC in Belize (8557558). That is an offshore licence: lighter protection than the FCA, CySEC or ASIC. Test a small withdrawal first.
