Four things to check before taking a bonus

  1. What happens when you withdraw. Many brokers remove bonus credit in proportion to the amount withdrawn.
  2. Which accounts qualify. Low-cost and ECN accounts are often excluded.
  3. Whether the bonus itself can be withdrawn. Usually it can’t; XM says so explicitly.
  4. Who regulates the bonus. Bonuses come from offshore entities. An offshore licence means supervision and a complaints route, but usually no tier-1 compensation scheme. Read our bonus rules guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I withdraw a forex bonus?

Usually not. The bonus is trading credit; profits made with it can be withdrawn. XM states this explicitly for its deposit bonus.

What percentage is XM's deposit bonus?

100%, on the Standard account. XM notes that some countries might be excluded, so check the offer in your client area after registering.

Why don't EU brokers offer bonuses?

EU-regulated entities generally can't offer bonuses to retail clients. The bonuses here come from offshore entities, which also means lighter regulatory protection.

Are bonuses taxable?

Profits from trading are generally taxable wherever you live. See our [tax guide](/en/guides/tax/) and check local rules.

Does a bonus count as margin?

Usually yes: credit bonuses add to your equity, so you can open larger positions or ride out bigger drawdowns. But the credit can't be withdrawn, and withdrawing your own money often removes part or all of it, which can lower your margin level suddenly.
