Best Forex Brokers in Indonesia: Compared
In Indonesia, forex derivatives have been supervised by Bank Indonesia since 10 January 2025, when the job moved from Bappebti, the commodity futures regulator that blocks the websites of unlicensed futures brokers, including foreign ones. None of the offshore brokers we cover holds a Bappebti licence as far as we could find, so using one means no Indonesian regulatory protection. Exness's own help centre lists Indonesia among the countries whose clients get automatic swap-free status.

The legal position: Bank Indonesia and Bappebti
Update for 2025. Under the P2SK Law (Law No. 4 of 2023) and Government Regulation No. 49 of 2024, supervision of derivatives on money-market and foreign-exchange instruments moved from Bappebti to Bank Indonesia on 10 January 2025, and Bank Indonesia’s own rule on these derivatives took effect on 1 December 2025. Crypto assets moved to OJK. Bappebti still supervises commodity futures, and its legality checker and licence lists below remain useful for brokers licensed before the transfer.
Forex in Indonesia is traded as a commodity futures product, and the regulator for that market is Bappebti (Badan Pengawas Perdagangan Berjangka Komoditi), under the Ministry of Trade. Only futures brokers (pialang berjangka) licensed by Bappebti may offer these contracts to the public.
Bappebti enforces this by blocking websites. In one release it announced that the Ministry of Trade had blocked 1,222 illegal commodity futures trading websites (February 2022), and it has issued similar announcements since. For the Indonesian market, the licence that counts is Bappebti’s, not one from another country’s regulator.
What this means for you: an offshore broker without a Bappebti licence isn’t supervised in Indonesia, so if something goes wrong you can’t turn to Bappebti for help. Its website may also be blocked at any time. This page describes the regulator’s position in general; it isn’t legal advice.
How to check a broker
- Bappebti legality checker: ceklegalitas.bappebti.go.id lets you search business operators in the commodity futures market. Search the exact company name, not just the brand.
- Licensed broker profiles: each licensed pialang berjangka on Bappebti’s site shows its company name, address and business licence number. Many entries say “d/h” (formerly), so search former names too.
- Revoked licences: Bappebti also publishes brokers whose licences were revoked.
Some international brands operate in Indonesia through a separate, locally licensed company with a different name. If a brand claims to be “licensed in Indonesia”, the company name and licence number should match the Bappebti record exactly. For general red flags, see our scam check guide.
Which brokers we cover accept Indonesia
From each broker’s own site, checked 31 October 2026:
| Broker | What its own site says about Indonesia |
|---|---|
| Accepts registrations: its help centre lists Indonesia among countries whose clients get automatic swap-free status | |
| XM (XM Global) | Not stated; its restricted list names the US, Canada, Israel and Iran |
| Not stated; it excludes India, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the US and FATF-listed jurisdictions | |
| Not on its unsupported-countries list | |
| Not stated (it excludes only EU and UK residents) | |
| Not stated (it names the USA, Iran and North Korea) | |
| Not stated (it names the USA, Iran and Macau, and in principle Malaysia and Japan) | |
| Not stated on its public pages; HFM’s registration form shows whether your country is accepted |
“Not stated” means the broker’s site neither names Indonesia as accepted nor excludes it. None of them, as far as we found, holds a Bappebti licence.
Swap-free accounts
Exness’s help centre says clients registered from a list of countries, including Indonesia, are assigned swap-free status automatically for their whole Personal Area. Other brokers we cover offer swap-free options too (swap-free comparison), usually by request or account type. Swap-free doesn’t mean free: some brokers widen spreads or charge fixed fees instead. See how swap works.
Funding in rupiah
None of the brokers we cover lists an Indonesia-specific payment method (such as local bank transfer in IDR) on the public pages we read. Exness and Vantage show available methods in the client area after registration, by region. Crypto deposits (USDT and others) are offered by several brokers, but if you send funds offshore you’re outside Indonesian investor protection. Our guides on deposit methods and crypto deposits cover the general risks.
Tax
Ask the Directorate General of Taxes or a tax adviser how trading gains are treated in your case. Our forex tax guide explains why residence, not the broker’s country, decides your obligations.
Octa and FBS
Two brokers with many Indonesian clients are Octa and FBS. Both take Indonesian bank deposits (FBS at a fixed 10,000 IDR per USD), and neither is licensed in Indonesia. Octa holds a Comoros (MISA) licence and FBS a Belize licence. Read is Octa safe? and is FBS safe? before you deposit. Local payment methods are covered in funding in rupiah.
Bottom line
For Indonesian residents, the regulated route is a Bappebti-licensed futures broker. Offshore brokers may accept your registration, but they sit outside Bappebti’s supervision and their websites can be blocked.
