Best Forex Brokers in Nigeria: Compared

Updated 31 October 2026 · Written by Broker Atlas Guides Desk · Data checked by Broker Atlas Data Desk

Short answer

In Nigeria, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said in 2018 that online retail forex trading was unregulated and that anyone taking part does so at their own risk. In 2026 it warned the public against unregistered online investment platforms, citing the Investments and Securities Act, 2025, under which only SEC-registered entities may promote investment services. None of the brokers we cover names Nigeria as excluded, and none, as far as we found, is SEC-registered.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria regulates the capital market. Two of its public notices define the picture for online forex:

  • In its public notice on online retail forex trading (19 October 2018), the SEC said it had seen more advertisements urging investors into leveraged online retail forex trading, that this activity was currently unregulated and may be subject to abuse, and that until it develops a regulatory framework, anyone participating does so at their own risk.
  • In its public notice on unregistered online investment schemes (signed 8 May 2026), it advised the public to refrain from investing in unregistered online investment platforms, citing the Investments and Securities Act, 2025, under which only entities registered by the Commission are authorised to promote investment services. It directs investors to confirm an operator’s status on the SEC’s registration pages before transacting.

The SEC has also published notices blacklisting specific unregulated online trading platforms, for example its blacklisting of six unregulated online trading platforms. The SEC’s site carries its latest rules and notices on online trading platforms. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Which brokers we cover accept Nigeria

From each broker’s own site, checked 31 October 2026:

Broker What its own site says about Nigeria
XM (XM Global) Not stated; its restricted list names the US, Canada, Israel and Iran
Exness Not stated; its list names the USA, Canada, Iran, North Korea, Europe, the UK, Russia, Belarus “and others”
Vantage Not named; it excludes India, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the US and jurisdictions on FATF lists
Titan FX Not on its unsupported-countries list
FXGT Not stated (it excludes only EU and UK residents)
XS.com Not stated (it names the USA, Iran and North Korea)
BigBoss Not stated (it names the USA, Iran and Macau, and in principle Malaysia and Japan)
HFM Not stated on its public pages; HFM’s registration form shows whether your country is accepted

“Not stated” means the site doesn’t name Nigeria either way. Because Vantage’s exclusion depends on the FATF’s lists, which change, check the FATF’s current lists and Vantage’s terms at sign-up.

None of these brokers, as far as we found, shows a registration with the Nigerian SEC. Under the SEC’s 2026 notice, that matters: only registered entities may promote investment services in Nigeria.

How to check a platform

  1. Look the company up on the SEC’s registration pages (the 2026 notice points to its registered FinTech operators page and its CMOS portal).
  2. Search the SEC’s enforcement updates and circulars for the brand and its websites.
  3. Treat promised or “guaranteed” returns as a red flag; the SEC’s 2026 notice specifically warns against platforms that promise unrealistic or guaranteed returns.

Funding in naira

None of the brokers we cover lists a Nigeria-specific payment method on the public pages we read. Exness and Vantage show methods by region after registration. Several brokers accept crypto deposits; our crypto deposit guide explains the risks, including irreversible transfers to the wrong network.

Tax

Check the Nigeria Revenue Service, your state’s internal revenue service or a tax adviser for how trading income is treated in your case. Our forex tax guide explains the general principle.

Bottom line

For Nigerian residents, the SEC’s message is caution: online retail forex was described as unregulated, and only registered entities may promote investment services. Offshore brokers in our table don’t show a Nigerian registration. Before choosing, read regulated vs offshore brokers and our safest brokers comparison.
