Best Forex Brokers in South Korea: Compared

Updated 31 October 2026 · Written by Broker Atlas Guides Desk · Data checked by Broker Atlas Data Desk

Short answer

In South Korea, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) has said that under the Capital Markets Act, individuals must trade FX margin through domestic investment brokers, and it warned about residents trading directly with overseas futures firms, where losing principal or recovering funds can be hard. None of the brokers we cover names Korea as excluded on its own site, and none is, as far as we found, licensed in Korea. Check any firm on the FSS's FINE service first.

Korea’s Financial Services Commission (FSC) sets financial policy and the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) supervises firms. On FX margin trading, the FSC’s report “Current status of FX margin trading and response measures” states that under the Capital Markets Act, individuals are required by law to trade FX margin through domestic investment brokers. The same report noted that more than 600 people had been found trading directly with overseas futures firms, warned that a move of only 1–2% in exchange rates could trigger forced liquidation or wipe out most of an investor’s funds, and said that losing principal or recovering funds can be difficult when trading directly with an overseas firm.

That report dates from 2009; check the FSC and FSS sites for later rule changes. Its core point, that the Capital Markets Act channels individuals’ FX margin trading through domestic brokers, is what matters for offshore brokers. This page is a general summary, not legal advice.

How to check a firm

  • FINE (금융소비자 정보포털): the FSS’s FINE service lets you check whether a company is a registered financial firm in Korea (“제도권 금융회사 조회”).
  • Expect little help from Korean channels with unregistered firms. The FSC’s report warns that recovering funds from an overseas firm can be difficult; a firm that isn’t registered in Korea isn’t supervised by the FSS.
  • Our Korean guides explain how to check offshore brokers: 먹튀 구별법 (scam check) and legal status of offshore FX in Korea.

Which brokers we cover accept South Korea

From each broker’s own site, checked 31 October 2026:

Broker What its own site says about South Korea
XM (XM Global) Not stated; its restricted list names the US, Canada, Israel and Iran
Exness Not stated; its list names the USA, Canada, Iran, North Korea, Europe, the UK, Russia, Belarus “and others” (North Korea, not South Korea)
Vantage Not stated; it excludes India, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the US and FATF-listed jurisdictions
Titan FX Not on its unsupported-countries list (which includes North Korea)
FXGT Not stated (it excludes only EU and UK residents)
XS.com Not stated (it names the USA, Iran and North Korea)
BigBoss Not stated (it names the USA, Iran and Macau, and in principle Malaysia and Japan)
HFM Not stated on its public pages; HFM’s registration form shows whether your country is accepted

“Not stated” means the site doesn’t name South Korea either way. None of these brokers shows a Korean licence, so a sign-up being accepted doesn’t make it a domestic investment broker under the Capital Markets Act.

Funding in won

Of the brokers in the table above, none lists a KRW bank transfer on its public pages. Two other brokers we cover do, on their Korean pages: Axi (local bank transfer, ₩15,000–₩6,500,000) and LandPrime (domestic bank via Payda, ₩50,000–₩10,000,000), both checked 2 November 2026. Several brokers, including Vantage and Titan FX, accept crypto deposits such as USDT; sending USDT from a Korean exchange on the wrong network can’t be reversed. Korean foreign-exchange rules may also apply to transfers abroad, and large overseas balances must be reported to the NTS: see funding in Korean won and when Korean residents must report offshore accounts.

Tax

The National Tax Service (NTS) publishes guidance on capital gains tax on derivatives. Whether and how it applies to offshore FX or CFD gains depends on your case; check with the NTS or a tax adviser. Our Korean tax guide and English forex tax guide explain the general principle.

Bottom line

For Korean residents, the regulated route for FX margin trading is a domestic investment broker; offshore brokers sit outside Korean supervision. If you still compare offshore brands, start small, withdraw first, and read regulated vs offshore brokers.
