Verdict

Octa is a low-cost, beginner-friendly broker for Southeast Asia: spread-only accounts with no commission, swap-free trading, small minimum deposits and local bank funding in baht, ringgit and rupiah. The trade-off is regulation. International clients deal with an offshore company licensed in the Comoros, which offers far less protection than a mainstream regulator, and Malaysia’s central bank lists Octa as unauthorised.

Good for

  • Traders who want no commission and no swaps on every account
  • Small accounts: a $25 minimum, and less via some local banks
  • Funding through local banks in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia
  • Copy trading through the Octa Copytrading app

Not for

  • Anyone who needs a top-tier regulator for their own account
  • Malaysian residents who want a firm authorised in Malaysia
  • Traders who want a raw-spread account with commission (Octa doesn’t offer one)

MISA is one of the newer offshore licensing bodies. It licenses many brokers quickly and does not run a compensation scheme, so your protection depends mostly on the broker’s own conduct. Read our licence tiers guide for how offshore licences compare, and how to check a broker before you deposit.

Accounts and costs

Octa offers three accounts, named after their platforms: OctaTrader (Octa’s own app and web platform), Octa MT4 and Octa MT5. All three are spread-only: there is no commission, and the spread is the whole trading cost. Review sites put Octa’s average EUR/USD trading cost at about 0.9 pips, which is competitive for a commission-free account.

Octa markets its accounts as swap-free, which suits traders who hold positions overnight and traders who need an Islamic account. Read the instrument conditions in the platform before you hold a large position for weeks, because brokers can change overnight terms by instrument.

Leverage goes up to 1,000:1 on major forex pairs, with lower limits on metals, indices and crypto. Use our margin calculator to see what a position needs, and compare Octa with others on high-leverage brokers.

Bonus

Octa runs a 50% deposit bonus that adds margin to your account. The bonus itself is not withdrawable, and withdrawing money can cancel it in proportion. Details: Octa bonus and how bonus rules work.

Deposits and withdrawals

Octa’s strength is local funding. Its announcements describe local bank deposits in Thailand and Malaysia (Maybank and CIMB Bank), with no Octa fee and a $5 minimum, and it also takes crypto and e-wallets. A third-party table lists bank withdrawals in about 1-3 hours without a fee. See Octa deposits and Octa withdrawals.

Safety and warnings

Octa says it offers negative balance protection, so a fast market shouldn’t leave you owing money, and the stop-out level is 15%. The main warning is Malaysia: Bank Negara Malaysia put OctaFX on its Financial Consumer Alert list in August 2022, and the Securities Commission Malaysia has flagged clone sites using Octa’s name. Full details: is Octa safe?

Bottom line

Octa keeps trading simple and cheap: no commission, no swaps, small deposits and local banks in Southeast Asia. Treat it as what it is, an offshore broker with a light licence, and keep your balance to an amount you can afford to have tied up. If you’re in Malaysia, read the Malaysia country page first; if you’re in Thailand or Indonesia, see Thailand and Indonesia.

Frequently asked questions

Is Octa regulated?

Its international company, Octa Markets Ltd, is licensed by the Mwali International Services Authority (MISA) in the Comoros, an offshore regulator with light supervision. Octa's group also has companies licensed in Cyprus (CySEC) and South Africa (FSCA), but those licences cover only their own clients.

What is Octa's minimum deposit?

Review sites list $25 for the main accounts, and Octa's own announcements give $5 as the minimum for local bank deposits in Thailand and Malaysia.

Does Octa charge commission or swaps?

Octa's accounts are spread-only, so there is no commission, and Octa markets its accounts as swap-free. Check the instrument's conditions in the platform, because terms can differ by instrument.

Is Octa legal in Malaysia?

Bank Negara Malaysia added OctaFX to its Financial Consumer Alert list on 29 August 2022, which means it is not authorised in Malaysia. Malaysian residents have no local protection if something goes wrong.

What leverage does Octa offer?

Up to 1,000:1 on forex under the MISA company, with lower limits on some instruments (for example 1:200 on gold and silver).
