Best Forex Brokers in India: Compared

Updated 31 October 2026 · Written by Broker Atlas Guides Desk · Data checked by Broker Atlas Data Desk

Short answer

For Indian residents, offshore forex is high legal risk. The Reserve Bank of India says residents who trade forex for purposes not permitted under FEMA, or on electronic trading platforms it hasn't authorised, can face penal action under FEMA, including for sending money to them in rupees or any other currency. The RBI's Alert List names Exness, XM, Vantage Markets, HotForex and HF Markets, and Vantage says on its own site that it doesn't serve India.

Foreign exchange in India is governed by the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA), administered by the Reserve Bank of India. The RBI publishes an Alert List of entities that are neither authorised to deal in forex under FEMA nor authorised to operate an electronic trading platform (ETP) for forex. Its latest version is dated 19 November 2025 and refers to the RBI’s June 2025 Master Direction on ETPs.

The RBI’s own warning is direct. In its press release of 10 February 2023, it says resident persons who undertake forex transactions for purposes other than those permitted under FEMA, or on ETPs it hasn’t authorised, render themselves liable for penal action under FEMA. The same applies to people who remit or deposit money for such transactions, “directly or indirectly, in INR or in any other currency”.

In plain terms: the offshore brokers in our comparison are not RBI-authorised ETPs, and using one from India exposes you to legal risk, not just financial risk. This page explains what the regulators and brokers say; it isn’t legal advice.

Which of our brokers the RBI names

The RBI’s Alert List (as published on its site) includes these brands we cover:

Broker On the RBI Alert List?
Exness Yes (exness.com)
XM Yes (listed as xm.com)
Vantage Yes (Vantage Markets, vantagemarkets.com)
HFM Yes (both HotForex and HF Markets, hfm.com)
Titan FX, FXGT, XS.com, BigBoss Not on the list

“Not on the list” does not mean authorised. The RBI states the list is not exhaustive and that an entity missing from it should not be assumed to be authorised by the RBI. The way to check is the RBI’s lists of authorised persons and authorised ETPs, linked from the Alert List page.

What the brokers themselves say about India

We checked each covered broker’s own site for country restrictions on 31 October 2026:

Broker What its own site says about India
Vantage Does not serve India (named in its regional restrictions, along with Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and the US)
XM (XM Global) Not stated; its restricted list names the US, Canada, Israel and Iran
Exness Not stated; its list names the USA, Canada, Iran, North Korea, Europe, the UK, Russia, Belarus “and others”
Titan FX Not on its unsupported-countries list
FXGT Not stated (it excludes only EU and UK residents)
XS.com Not stated (it names the USA, Iran and North Korea)
BigBoss Not stated (it names the USA, Iran and Macau, and in principle Malaysia and Japan)
HFM Not stated; the RBI’s Alert List above names both HotForex and HF Markets

A broker accepting your registration doesn’t make the trade lawful for you under FEMA. The RBI’s position applies to the resident, whatever the broker’s sign-up form allows.

Funding from India

None of the brokers we cover lists an India-specific payment method on the public pages we read. Exness and Vantage show methods only after registration, by region. Whatever the method (bank transfer, card, UPI-linked wallet or crypto), the RBI’s warning covers money sent “directly or indirectly” for unauthorised forex trading. We don’t recommend workarounds, and you shouldn’t rely on anyone who offers one.

How to check a platform

  1. Search the RBI Alert List for the brand and every website it uses.
  2. Check the RBI’s lists of authorised persons and authorised ETPs (linked from the same page).
  3. Be wary of “training”, “signals” or “demo” offers: the RBI says the Alert List also covers entities promoting unauthorised platforms, including through advertisements or claims of training and advisory services.

Our general guide to checking a broker’s licence and spotting scam warning signs applies too, but for Indian residents the RBI’s rules come first.

Tax

Tax treatment depends on how your income is classified and your circumstances. Use the Income Tax Department’s portal or a qualified adviser. Our forex tax guide explains the general principle that residence, not the broker’s location, decides your tax.

Bottom line

For Indian residents the question isn’t which offshore broker is best but whether trading offshore is lawful for you at all, and the RBI’s answer is that unauthorised forex platforms expose you to FEMA penalties. Frequently asked questions

Is forex trading legal in India?

Only within FEMA rules: with persons authorised by the RBI to deal in forex and on RBI-authorised electronic trading platforms. The RBI warns that residents trading on unauthorised platforms, or remitting money to them, are liable to penal action under FEMA.

Is Exness on the RBI Alert List?

Yes. The RBI's Alert List (updated 19 November 2025) includes Exness (exness.com), along with XM (xm.com), Vantage Markets, HotForex and HF Markets.

Does a broker missing from the Alert List mean it's authorised?

No. The RBI says the list isn't exhaustive and that an entity not on it should not be assumed to be authorised. Check the RBI's lists of authorised persons and authorised ETPs instead.

Can I use UPI or rupee bank transfers to fund an offshore broker?

The RBI says remitting or depositing money for unauthorised forex trading, directly or indirectly, in INR or any other currency, can attract penal action under FEMA. None of the brokers we cover lists an India-specific method on its public pages.

How are trading profits taxed in India?

That depends on how your income is classified. Check the Income Tax Department's guidance or a qualified adviser; we don't give tax advice.
