ThreeTrader Leverage: Maximum Ratio and the Rules That Limit It

Updated 31 October 2026 · Written by Broker Atlas Broker Reviews Desk · Data checked by Broker Atlas Data Desk

Short answer

ThreeTrader's maximum leverage is 1,000:1 on major and minor FX and gold while your equity is below $5,000. From $5,000 equity it drops to 500:1. Exotics are 100:1 (HUF pairs 50:1 above $5,000), silver and platinum 200:1, oil 200:1, indices 500:1 and crypto 200:1. In the 30 minutes before weekend and holiday closes, gold, silver and indices are cut to 100:1 and oil to 20:1. Margin call is 80%, liquidation 20%.

Margin needed to open 1 lot: 1:25 $4,400, 1:100 $1,100, 1:500 $220, 1:1,000 $110
At ThreeTrader's maximum leverage of 1:1,000, 1 lot of EUR/USD needs about $110 of margin (at 1.10). Leverage changes the margin you need, not the profit or loss per pip.

Leverage by product and equity

From ThreeTrader’s forex markets page, for ThreeTrader Global Ltd (VFSC 40430). The same limits apply to Raw Zero and Pure Spread.

Oil 200:1 100:1 20:1
Indices 500:1 500:1 100:1
Crypto 200:1 200:1 Unchanged

The page doesn’t say whether “equity” is measured per account or across all your accounts, or how quickly the limit changes when you cross $5,000.

Margin call and liquidation

ThreeTrader’s FAQ: margin call starts at 80% margin level and liquidation starts at 20%. With negative balance protection, ThreeTrader says a negative account is returned to zero.

Margin examples

Margin = position size ÷ leverage.

  • 1 lot EUR/USD (100,000 EUR) at 1,000:1: €100 of margin.
  • Same trade once equity passes $5,000 (500:1): €200.
  • 1 lot gold (100 oz) at $4,000, 1,000:1: $400. If you open it in the 30-minute pre-close window, at 100:1, it needs $4,000.

That last case is the one to watch: holding gold or indices into the weekend close needs much more margin, which can push your margin level towards 20%. See margin level explained.

Changing leverage

ThreeTrader’s public pages don’t explain how to change leverage on an account. Ask support or check the client area. For the basics, see leverage explained.
