EBC's maximum leverage is 500:1 on Standard and Professional accounts; you choose your level when opening the account. EBC says EUR/USD and gold typically go to 500x and exotics like USD/ZAR to 50x. New positions get 1:100 in the final hour before the close (final 3 hours on Fridays) and 1:200 from 30 minutes before to 5 minutes after NFP, CPI and rate decisions. Ultra Leverage (1:2000 or unlimited) is only for selected countries. Stop-out is 30%.
Maximum leverage
| Account | Max leverage | Stop-out |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 500:1 | 30% |
| Professional | 500:1 | 30% |
From EBC’s account page. EBC’s leverage page says you can “freely choose the leverage size” within the platform’s range, and that the maximum varies by product: EUR/USD and gold typically up to 500x, exotic pairs such as USD/ZAR about 50x. The per-instrument table on that page isn’t part of its readable text, so check margin in your platform for other products.
Temporary leverage cuts
From EBC’s Leverage Adjustment Period article (MT server time is UTC+3):
| Period | Max leverage for new positions |
|---|---|
| Mon–Thu 23:00–23:59 (last hour before close) | 1:100 |
| Friday 21:00–23:59 (last 3 hours) | 1:100 |
| 30 min before to 5 min after major data (NFP, CPI, rate decisions) | 1:200 |
| Last hour (Mon–Thu) or 3 hours (Fri) before a holiday early close | 1:100 |
It applies to forex and precious metals (XAU/USD, XAG/USD). BTC/USD isn’t affected; it uses tiered margin. EBC warns that hedged traders opening new trades in these windows can see overall margin rise and face stop-out.
Energy (from 6 August 2026): oil and gas leverage depends on your account leverage and the period. For example, at 500:1 account leverage, energy is 1:100 normally, 1:40 around major data and 1:20 before the close.
Ultra Leverage (selected countries only)
Offered in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Mongolia and African countries, on STD and PRO accounts, for forex and metals:
| Account equity | Leverage |
|---|---|
| $0–500 | 1:Unlimited |
| $500.01–2,000 | 1:2000 |
Rules: apply in the User Centre after depositing; stop-out at equity below zero; up to 200 orders; with open positions you can withdraw only 50% of the lower of balance or equity. Ultra Leverage is suspended in the cut-off periods above (1:100 / 1:200).
Margin examples
Margin = position value ÷ leverage. One lot of EUR/USD at 1.15 = $115,000:
| Leverage | Margin |
|---|---|
| 500:1 | $230 |
| 200:1 (news window) | $575 |
| 100:1 (pre-close window) | $1,150 |
The pre-close rule is why weekend holders need more free margin. Practise with the margin level guide.
Changing leverage
- Log in to the User Centre.
- Next to the trading account, click “…” → Update Leverage.
- Choose the new ratio, click Sure and wait for approval.
With open positions you can only raise leverage, not lower it.
Negative balance
EBC’s negative balance protection is on application and only up to a $999.99 deficit. See is EBC safe?
