How to Open a XM Account, From Sign-Up to Verification

Updated 30 October 2026 · Written by Broker Atlas Broker Reviews Desk · Data checked by Broker Atlas Data Desk

Short answer

To open an XM Global account you create an XM Profile, verify it, then deposit. XM says your first real and demo MT4/MT5 accounts are created automatically when you register, and you log in to them with your profile password. For verification XM asks only for proof of identity: a passport valid for at least six more months, a driving licence or an ID card.

Before you start: which XM you are joining

On the Korean and English sites, XM means XM Global Limited, licensed by the Financial Services Commission of Belize (licence 8557558). It is a different company from XMTrading (Japan) and from XM’s EU entity, and its conditions differ. If xm.com sends you to an EU page, that page’s rules (low leverage, no bonus) do not describe XM Global. Read is XM safe? for what a Belize licence does and doesn’t protect.

Step 1: create your XM Profile

According to XM’s help centre, everything starts with an XM Profile: one email address and password that holds all your trading accounts. You register on xmglobal.com with your country of residence, email and a password. If your country isn’t offered in the form, XM says it doesn’t serve that country yet.

XM states it does not provide its service to citizens of the United States, Canada, Israel and Iran (and other sanctioned countries).

Step 2: your first accounts are created automatically

XM’s help centre says your first real and demo trading accounts are opened automatically just after you register. To log in to them in MT4 or MT5, use the password you created for your XM Profile.

To find the account number and server you need for MetaTrader, XM’s steps are:

  1. Log in.
  2. Click your account balance at the top of the screen to open your accounts list.
  3. Select the account and click Manage.
  4. Open Account Information to see the trading server.

Want a different account? XM says additional accounts are opened by choosing Real or Demo and the account type you prefer. You can’t change the type or base currency of an existing account, so choose deliberately: see XM account types.

Step 3: verify your profile

XM says its regulator, the Belize FSC, requires it to collect proof of identity from every client under its Know Your Client rules. Its verification steps are:

  1. Log in and click Complete.
  2. Verify your phone number.
  3. Fill in the Profile and Investor Profile sections.
  4. Complete Document Verification.

You can follow progress in the header or under Profile → Upload Documents, which also lists any documents still missing. XM says you can request a withdrawal at any time once your account is verified, so do this before you need your money.

Documents XM accepts

XM says it only asks for proof of identity (POI) when you open an account: a colour copy of an official document issued by a recognised authority.

Document Condition XM lists
Passport Valid for at least 6 more months
Driving licence Must show the details below
Identity card Must show the details below

The document must show your full name, issue and expiry dates, date and place of birth or tax identification number, and signature. XM’s public page doesn’t list proof of address for opening, but the verification screen tells you if anything else is needed.

Step 4: deposit

Once verified, fund the account. XM’s minimum deposit is $5 for any account type, although individual payment methods can have higher minimums. Fees, currencies and bonus rules are in XM deposit methods.

Partner codes

XM’s public help pages don’t describe a partner (introducing broker) code field in the registration form, so we can’t tell you where to enter one or whether it can be added after registration. If you were given a referral link, use it when you register, and ask XM support before relying on adding a code later.

Logging in to MT4 or MT5

  • Desktop: open MT4 or MT5, choose File → Login to Trade Account, and enter the account number, your profile password and the server shown under Account Information.
  • Mobile: XM’s help centre has walkthroughs for the MT4 and MT5 Android and iOS apps; search for the server name in your account details.
  • Can’t log in? The usual causes are the wrong server or mixing up demo and real accounts. Check Account Information first.

XM says both MT4 and MT5 support Expert Advisors. Not sure which platform to use? See MT4 vs MT5.

After you open

  • Set your leverage: XM lets you change it under Manage → Change Leverage, applied instantly. See XM leverage.
  • Check that the 100% deposit bonus applies in your country: XM bonus.
  • Read the withdrawal rules before you deposit: XM withdrawals.
