The short answer
FXGT and M4Markets are closer than most pairs: both are Seychelles-licensed, both advertise 5000:1, both have raw/ECN accounts and both state negative balance protection. The differences are in the fine print of that leverage, in the bonus you can count on, and in how much each broker tells you up front.
1. How you get to 5000:1
M4Markets’ Dynamic Leverage account gives 5000:1 on FX majors for positions up to 1 lot, falling to 2000:1 above 1 lot and lower again with size. Gold starts at 3000:1 up to 0.5 lots. There’s no activity hurdle; the account opens from $5.
FXGT’s Optimus account gives 5000:1 while equity is under $1,000, and only after you’ve traded 5 GT lots and closed 8 trades. FXGT’s other accounts go up to 1000:1. So M4Markets ties leverage to position size, FXGT to account size and history. Both approaches mean the headline number applies only to small exposure. Compare: high-leverage brokers, FXGT leverage, M4Markets leverage.
2. Minimum deposit
FXGT’s 1000:1 account has a $0 minimum balance. M4Markets starts at $5 on Standard, Dynamic Leverage and Cent (with selected payment methods), $500 on Raw Spread and $10,000 on Premium. For a first small deposit both are effectively open.
3. Bonus: 50% versus 25%
M4Markets pays 50% on each deposit, up to $10,000 of credit, converting to cash as you trade. FXGT pays a 25% loyalty bonus on every deposit, also capped at $10,000, on its Mini and Standard+ accounts; the credit isn’t withdrawable. FXGT states that “trading conditions, promotions and account types may vary based on the country/location”, so check what its sign-up shows for your country. See M4Markets bonus and FXGT bonus.
4. Costs and accounts
M4Markets publishes average spreads per account: EUR/USD 1.6 pips on Standard, 0.4 pips on Raw Spread and Premium before commission. FXGT offers five accounts (Standard, Optimus, Low Spread, Mini, ECN Zero) plus copy-trading accounts, but its cost terms may also vary by country, so we don’t quote them. Both offer swap-free options and crypto CFDs; FXGT adds copy trading, its own FXGT Trader platform and stock CFDs. See FXGT spreads and M4Markets spreads.
5. Licence and protection
M4Markets: Trinota Markets (Global) Ltd, Seychelles FSA SD035 (group CySEC and DFSA licences cover other companies). FXGT: GT Global Ltd, Seychelles FSA SD019 for retail clients, with FSCA and Vanuatu companies in the group. Same regulator, same level of protection: supervision and segregated funds, but no EU-style compensation or leverage caps. Read the Seychelles FSA guide.
