MT5 Mobile App Guide: iPhone and Android
Install MetaTrader 5 by MetaQuotes from the App Store or Google Play, tap Settings → New Account, search for your broker's server and log in with your account number and password. MetaQuotes lists 9 timeframes, 30 indicators, 24 analytical objects, the full set of order types and Depth of Market in the free app. It can't run EAs; for automation you need desktop MT5 or a VPS.
What the app can do
MetaQuotes’ own pages for the iPhone and Android apps list the same core features:
| Feature | MT5 mobile |
|---|---|
| Timeframes | 9, from one minute to one month |
| Chart types | 3: bars, candlesticks, lines |
| Technical indicators | 30 |
| Analytical objects | 24 (lines, channels, shapes, Gann, Fibonacci and Elliott tools) |
| Orders | Full set, including pending and stop orders, with Stop Loss and Take Profit |
| Position accounting | Netting and hedging |
| Depth of Market | Yes (Level 2), with orders placed from it |
| Alerts and news | Push notifications, alerts, financial news, built-in chat |
Desktop MT5 has 21 timeframes, so the phone shows fewer; the 9 cover the common ones. Whether you see Depth of Market data depends on what your broker streams.
Install and log in
- Install MetaTrader 5 published by MetaQuotes (check the publisher to avoid copycat apps). Some brokers also have their own apps that open MT5 accounts, such as the XM app.
- Open it and go to Settings → New Account (iPhone) or the menu → Manage accounts → + (Android).
- Search for your broker’s server name from your welcome email.
- Choose Login to an existing account, enter your login and password.
Your login details are in the broker’s welcome email or client portal. If you’re still opening the account, the broker’s own open-account page explains where they appear, for example Exness or Vantage. Use the trading password, not the investor (read-only) password, or the app will log in but refuse orders.
The four main screens
| Screen | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Quotes | Bid/ask prices; tap a symbol to trade or open a chart |
| Chart | Candles, timeframes, indicators and drawing tools |
| Trade | Open positions, balance, equity, margin and free margin |
| History | Closed trades, deposits and withdrawals |
Add symbols from Quotes with the + icon; gold, indices and crypto may be hidden by default.
The Trade screen is where to watch margin level: equity ÷ used margin × 100. If it nears your broker’s stop-out level, close or reduce positions. The margin level calculator shows how much room you have, and margin level explained covers margin calls and stop-outs.
Placing a trade
- Tap a symbol in Quotes → Trade.
- Choose Market Execution or a pending order type.
- Set volume in lots: 0.01 is the smallest at most brokers (lot sizes).
- Enter Stop Loss and Take Profit.
- Tap Buy by Market or Sell by Market.
To close or modify, go to Trade, press and hold (Android) or swipe (iPhone) the position.
Work out the volume before you open the order screen, not while staring at a moving price: the position size calculator turns your stop distance and risk into lots, and the margin calculator shows what the trade will lock up.
Push notifications from desktop MT5
The phone can receive alerts that your desktop MT5 or EA sends. MetaQuotes’ platform settings help describes the steps:
- In the app, open Messages and copy your MetaQuotes ID. Each device has its own.
- In desktop MT5, open Tools → Options (Ctrl+O) → Notifications.
- Tick Enable Push Notifications and paste the ID. Up to four IDs can be entered, separated by commas.
- Choose the source: notifications from the local terminal (desktop must keep running) or from the trade server, which works with the desktop closed if your broker supports it.
- Press Test to check a message arrives.
This is the practical way to follow an EA running on a VPS from your phone.
Mobile-specific risks
- Fat-finger volume. 1.00 instead of 0.10 is ten times the risk. Double-check before tapping.
- Connection drops. Use stop-losses so a lost connection doesn’t leave a trade unmanaged.
- Small-screen charts. It’s easy to misread a level. Confirm the stop price in the order window, not just on the chart line.
- Notifications. Set price alerts rather than watching charts constantly.
- Phone security. Use a screen lock and don’t save passwords on shared devices.

Frequently asked questions
Is the MT5 app free?
Yes. MetaQuotes publishes it free; your broker account provides the prices and execution.
Can I run EAs on the MT5 mobile app?
No. Expert Advisors run on desktop MT5. To keep an EA running while you're away, use a VPS, and have desktop MT5 send push notifications to your phone.
Why can't I find my broker in the app?
Type the company or server name exactly as in your welcome email. Brokers sometimes list servers under the legal company name rather than the brand.
Is it safe to trade from a phone?
It's as secure as your phone. Use a screen lock, don't log in on shared devices, and be careful with lot sizes on a small screen.
How do I get alerts from desktop MT5 on my phone?
Copy the MetaQuotes ID from the app's Messages section, then in desktop MT5 open Tools → Options → Notifications, enable push notifications, paste the ID and press Test.
